Black&White 2 animated trailer mirror over here, for those who haven’t seen it

I think there’s been a big misunderstanding…

Speculation for “The Aftermath” and beyond

birdbrainblue:

Based on the events of “And the Winner Is…”, the new clip, and the TV Guide summary; as well as the six unexplained scenes left from the trailers and the Republic City game.

Given that the title of the episode is “The Aftermath”, it’s almost certain that the primary plot will concern the main characters reacting to Amon’s attack on the arena, in various ways.

Dear Fandom,

No matter how this episode turns out (whether Asami is an equalist, or Korra accuses Asami and she is wrong) please do not turn the Korra tag into a woman bashing one.

Please.

I am begging you to realize that these are complex characters and if you’re going to critique their actions, please do not use slut shaming and misogynistic terms to criticize their actions, whatever they may be.

Love,

Fangirlingforeverz

I was catching up on The Legend Of Korra and there was a scene at the council where Tenzin says to Tarlock “this is just another one of your ploys to gain more power, isn’t it” and I honest to god groaned audibly

Most of the writing on Avatar is really solid and believable and not at all patronizing but every once in a while it does something to really drive home the fact that it is very much a show for children

Oh god yes I hated all of the political stuff in that ep

“Let’s get a task squad of benders and go and attack and capture non-benders who are trying to learn a valid way of defending themselves from bender crime. THAT WILL SURELY EASE ALL OF THIS UNREST”

The only adults in the show are Tenzin and Lin :I Tenzin is an airbender so he can stay calm about it but at least now we know why Lin is such a hardass, she’s surrounded by people whose political motivations are as deep and sophisticated as a soup spoon.

One of my biggest qualms with “Korra” has been the really bland and overly transparent writing.  Unlike in A:TLA, where Mike and Bryan were joined by a team of writers who edited every script to give each character a really distinct voice, that is painfully lacking in “Korra.” (Mike and Bryan wrote all these episodes alone, and I’m sorry to say that the difference is painfully obvious as far as the dialogue goes.)

A common piece of advice for writers is “show, don’t tell.” So far in Korra, nearly every bit of important information has been told through really rushed and impersonal dialogue. The only characters who have a really unique and personal voice are Tenzin’s kids, and they’re mostly for comedy.

It’s frustrating for me, because the lack of personality in the dialogue makes their conversations less relatable and less moving when they should be. And it does make the  writing feel more like a kid’s show, when the characters say exactly what is on their mind in the most direct way possible, rather than saying it in a way that specific character would say it.

I understand that they are really rushed for time, because they have set up this incredibly complex story and want to introduce us to the new setting and characters and problems in the city ASAP, but… the story suffers for it.  I will keep watching of course, mostly because I am completely enamored with Korra herself… but I kind of wish we had the old writers back to round out the dialogue as in A:TLA.

still waiting for the show to finish for final judgments and am too tired to add my own commentary, but some good points made

I don’t necessarily agree with all of this, but there are definitely some good points made.

To be honest I like LOK more than ATLA in it’s first season, but I have definitely noticed the occasionally wooden dialogue. The voice actors are absolutely fantastic, imo, so that helps considerably and it may be why I don’t notice it as much.

I think that this past episode (6) confirmed my theory that the first 5 episodes were meant as a set up for the rest of the season (kind of like how the first 12-14 episodes of FMAB were fairly rushed in order to get through the old background story faster and get to the new stuff), and therefore were more rushed and blatant in delivery in order to lay down the basis for the rest of the story. ‘And the Winner Is…’ was significantly slower paced and took place over a shorter period of time and didn’t deal with sooo many different plotlines and characters, and it ended up being the best episode thus far. Unless I’m totally wrong, of course, the next 6 episodes will hopefully be the same way.

And I’m sure the next season will be even better. Book 2 of ATLA was MUCH better than Book 1 in my opinion, and I’m sure it’ll be the same way with LOK for all the reasons already said.
